I now work full time in publishing, and spend basically every minute of my spare time writing! Lightning round: What’s the first book you can remember reading, one that left you speechless and one you wish you’d written?

I studied music theatre at university, and spent about 10 years performing professionally in musicals around Australia and New Zealand, like CATS and Mary Poppins. I’m originally from a country town called Ballarat, which is where the story of Anything But Fine takes place. Well, I currently live in Sydney with my husband, Daniel (who is performing in the Australian production of Hamilton) and our gorgeous Cavoodle, Ollie. Hi, Tobias! Thanks for chatting with us! Tell our readers a bit about yourself! We got to ask Tobias all about his debut novel, favourite scenes and how to tackle tough topics in writing!Īnything But Fine releases on August 31st 2021 in Australia ( pre-order here) and on January 25th 2022 in the US ( pre-order here). The only bright side is that he strikes up unlikely friendships with the nicest (and nerdiest) girl at his new school, Amina, and the gorgeous, popular, and (reportedly) straight school captain, Jordan Tanaka-Jones.The Nerd Daily recently sat down with Tobias Madden, debut author of the upcoming YA contemporary Anything But Fine, a coming of age story about Luca Mason who loses his dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer when he injures his foot. With his dancing dreams dead on their feet, Luca loses his performing arts scholarship and transfers to the local public school, leaving behind all his ballet friends and his whole future on stage. Luca Mason knows exactly who he is and what he wants: In six months, he’s going to be accepted into the Australian Ballet School, leave his fancy private high school, and live his life as a star of the stage-at least that’s the plan until he falls down a flight of stairs and breaks his foot in a way he can never recover from. All it takes is one missed step for your life to change forever.
